The Korg Volca FM2 Digital Synth is a fully portable synthesizer with 6-voice polyphony and built-in effects. Building on the success of the popular Volca FM, the Volca FM2 takes FM synthesis to exciting new heights with a host of upgrades, enhancements, and innovative features.

The additions include 64 brand-new programs and a user-friendly one-touch sequence randomisation function. The FM2 also boasts integrated MIDI connectivity, which supports aftertouch control via an external MIDI controller.

Fully compatible with the legacy DX SYS-EX/SYS format, the Volca FM2 lets you load sounds from various synthesizers and workstations, enhancing your creative options. Korg's cutting-edge technology and years of expertise have enabled them to faithfully recreate the iconic DX7 sound, now with a fresh selection of powerful tools at your fingertips.

Equipped with six operators and 32 algorithms, the Volca FM2 offers exceptional flexibility in sound design. It allows you to craft everything from metallic, sharp tones to rich electric pianos and deep synth basses. Its FM synthesis engine brings classic vintage sounds to modern music production, delivering a vast array of tonal possibilities. You can also easily create complex sequences and loops using the intuitive 16-step sequencer and built-in arpeggiator.

Additionally, the Volca FM2 comes bundled with a comprehensive music software suite, offering all the essential tools to compose, arrange, and produce music.

Expanded Voicings

Building on the original FM, the FM2 gives you more. Doubling your creative power by adding three additional voices. The 6-voice polyphony allows you to create complex chords and advanced sequences/arpeggios for building custom soundscapes and voices. The Volca FM authentically recreates the legendary sound engine that defined FM synthesis in the 1980s.

It features six operators and 32 algorithms and is compatible with classic FM synthesis, allowing you to shape rich, dynamic tones. It also supports SYS-EX/SYX file loading, enabling seamless integration with DX7 patches for an authentic vintage sound.

New Effects and Randomisation

Building on the original design, the Volca FM2 introduces a lush reverb effect, adding depth and atmosphere to your sound. Alongside the classic Chorus effect, the reverb enhances your sonic palette, allowing you to create rich, immersive tones. Both effects are fully adjustable using the onboard controls, giving you total flexibility to shape your sound.

The Volca FM2 also comes packed with new performance tools and program randomisation features, sparking fresh ideas and inspiring creative 'happy accidents.' With the ability to manipulate active steps and pattern chains, you can craft irregular rhythms and unique grooves. Step timing can be skewed for added unpredictability, injecting controlled chaos into your sequences. You can also link up to 16 sequences together, making it ideal for live performances and even full song creation.

Innovative Sound Editing and Shaping

Take full control of your sound with the MODULATOR and CARRIER editor knobs, designed to shape and refine your tones. These controls are mapped to multiple parameters, allowing you to tweak and transform your sound in real-time. For those who want deeper customisation, the onboard menu provides access to detailed parameter editing, giving advanced users the flexibility to craft their ideal sound.

Play melodies, build patterns, and experiment with sequencing using the responsive touch-panel keyboard. The Volca FM2 also features onboard memory, enabling you to store up to 16 sequence patterns. This is perfect for live performances and seamless music production.

Synthmata Online Editor and Music Software

Volca users can now edit patches effortlessly with the Synthmata online editor. Developed in collaboration with Oscillator Sink, this free online tool gives you deeper control over your sound. It features an intelligent randomiser, 11 sound-quality sliders, and various other controls, allowing for precise sound shaping and endless creative possibilities.

Beyond its powerful synthesis capabilities, the Volca FM2 also comes with a comprehensive music software bundle. This includes Reason Lite, a versatile DAW for recording, arranging, and editing music, capturing sequences and crafting full tracks quickly. To refine and polish your productions, iZotope's Ozone Elements is included for professional-quality mastering.

Additionally, for those looking to enhance their playing skills, the Volca FM2 offers access to Skoove, an interactive online platform for learning piano and keyboards.
